Karen Walwyn

Dr. Karen Walwyn is a composer, concert pianist, and performing artist for Albany Records. She began piano lessons at age 3 when her grandmother noticed her unusual interest in the piano. She is presently the Associate Professor of Piano and Coordinator of Keyboard Studies at Howard University. She was awarded the Mellon Faculty Fellowship from the John Hope Franklin Institute at Duke University for the 2011-2012 year, and in July of 2014, she was officially designated a Steinway Artist by Steinway & Sons, “making her one of an elite group of pianists worldwide awarded such stature by the famous piano maker, and Howard University’s first ‘Steinway Artist-in-Residence.'” She also has perfect pitch.
