Igor Stravinsky

Stravinsky was a Russian Modern Era composer. Stravinsky began piano lessons at age 9. His father was an opera singer, so Stravinsky was constantly in the presence of the most famous musicians of the time. Stravinsky’s father wanted him to study law, but on the side, Stravinsky received composition lessons from the son of famous composer, Rimsky-Korsakov. After achieving great success with his piece Firebird, Stravinsky left law and focused solely on music and composition. Stravinsky music was very different compared to his contemporaries. In fact, the premier of his Rite of Spring was so different, that the audience rioted. It is believed that these differences will make Stravinky one of the composers who will be known for many years to come.
