Welcome to Music Class, 3rd Graders!
Last year you learned to read the pitches of the pentatonic scale – do, re, mi, sol, and la on the staff. You also explored previous rhythms ta the quarter note, ti-ti the eighth notes, and a quarter rest and learned a new rhythm – tikatika, 16th notes. You played various classroom instruments, sang songs, played games and performed folk dances. You also created some of your own music using the pitches and rhythms that you learned throughout the year. You explored symphonic instrument families – brass, percussion, strings and woodwinds. You have become impressive musicians already. Your musical journey will take you to new places this year as we expand on what we know with more rhythms and pitches, new musical vocabulary and many new games, dances and songs. I can’t wait to see you again and begin making music!
